Puppy Food – A guide to creating simple homemade puppy food recipes.
Puppy food is a critical component of your responsibility as a pet parent. These tiny little darlings are voracious in their appetite, full of love and absorbing life to the fullest. Homemade food with the right ingredients is always the best puppy food.
The growth of a pup is rapid and correct nutrition is critical for the development of the puppy’s digestive constitution, muscle, teeth and bone development. Exploding energy levels of the puppy will need to be addressed. Monitoring food intake is important. Overeating of puppy food by your dog is a hazard you must take care of at all times as well.
Giving Nutritionally complete homemade dog food should certainly be a considered as a crucial item in your puppy essentials kit.
Homemade Kheema Khichdi puppy food
This meal is ideal for puppies of age 45-60 days. It is always advised to give freshly cooked food to puppies in the initial stages of their growth.
INGREDIENTS
Rice or Daliya – 1 cup
Carrots -1
Pumpkin – 100 gms. (approx.)
Chicken Kheema – 2 or 3 table spoons
Haldi Powder – 1 pinch of haldi powder
Dahi – 2 tbl spoon with each meal
Note : The above quantities will make for a good 3 meals for the puppy.
DIRECTION FOR PREPARATION
Take the carrot and pumpkin and chop into tiny pieces. No need really to peel the carrot skin as that is a good source of fiber in dog food. Add the carrot and pumpkin pieces to a cup full of rice or daliya along with 2-3 table spoons of chicken kheema, mix well with a pinch of haldi powder and place the mixture in a cooker. Boil for 3 whistles. Let the meal cool down.
While serving add 2 table spoons of room temperature dahi to the meal and then give it to the puppy.
Homemade puppy food like CERELAC
This meal is ideal for puppies of age 45-60 days.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup Rice
1 cup Chaana dal
One cup Daliya
1/2 cup Rawa
4-5 table spoon milk powder (Lactogen 1 can be used)
DIRECTIONS FOR PREPARATION
Dry roast the chaana dal, daliya, rawa and rice separately till it is golden brown. The raw smell of the ingredient should not exist either. Do not burn any of the ingredients such that they become black. Once cooled down, start grinding each said ingredient separately till it is a fine powder. Mix all powders along with the 4-5 table spoons of milk powder and store in a airtight box.
Whenever required , take out a couple of teaspoons of the above said mixture and add room temperature boiled water to it. Mix well till it is of a soft consistency and then serve as a meal to the pup.
Note : Use this mix as soon as possible before it gets spoilt.
A Curd Smoothie as puppy food.
This smoothie is ideal for puppies of age 45-60 days.
INGREDIENTS
200 gms plain curds
3 table spoons of honey
1 raw egg white
2 cap fulls of Gripe Water
DIRECTIONS FOR PREPARATION
Take a 1 liter bottle of water and pour the mentioned ingredients into it and fill the remaining with boiled water to about 3/4 of the bottle. Close the bottle and shake well till all ingredients are mixed together. Your ‘high in calcium and protein’ puppy meal is now ready.
Homemade Veg Pulao for the puppy
INGREDIENTS
1 Carrot
2 Sweet Potatoes
Small piece of Ginger
1/2 cup Rice
1 Table Spoon Ghee
50 grams Paneer (Cottage Cheese)
DIRECTIONS FOR PREPARATION
Chop the carrot into small pieces. There is no need to peel the skin as that is additional nutrition. Crush the ginger and grate the paneer along with the sweet potato. Add all ingredients into the soaked raw rice with a pinch of haldi and ghee and pressure cook up to 3 whistles.
Boiled Chicken can be added to this fresh homemade dog food for the required protein intake.
