Stray Dogs and the feeding of Glucose Biscuits to them – Good or Bad?

Mention Glucose Biscuits as food for stray dogs to animal loving people and many will frown upon it. A lecture will probably ensue about how glucose biscuits are not good and should not be fed to stray dogs.

Glucose Biscuits are fed to my stray dogs by me.

It is my passion to feed stray dogs and animals. Many a time I do feed them Glucose Biscuits. Often I have had people give me advice me as to how these biscuits are not good food for stray dogs.

My usual response has been by saying it might not be considered optimum nutrition but it is the most practical snack we can give to the dogs. Naturally I also make it a point to tell them that I look forward to them assisting me in giving better food, this day forward to the stray dogs.

So what is it about glucose biscuits and stray dogs ?

Here is my take from ground zero.

Giving Glucose Biscuits to stray dogs is reasonably safe. Unless the biscuits are given in real huge amounts it would then be considered unhealthy. Also if that is the only food these strays eat through out the day, for weeks and weeks then too much of something is not good.

Stray Dogs scavenge across the day.

Glucose Biscuits are pure carbohydrates & sugar but our stray dogs eat other stuff available (containing vitamins, minerals, proteins and fats) as well. Rice, chicken, poha , dried food that us feeders give, left overs and rotten food in garbage is a part of their daily diet.

I am confident the effect of a few glucose biscuits will not be bad for the stray dogs at all. In fact the biscuits might just be balancing the extremely erratic daily diet they have.

Also our learned ones must understand the constitution of our stray dogs and animals are very very different from pedigree pets at home. Their digestive tracts are made of steel as they survive on virtually anything and everything that is available on the road.

Our stray dogs survive on expired and rotten food, curdled milk , grass and excreta of other animals. They also chew on used pampers and sanitary pads. Rats, rodents, human vomit and spoilt food from restaurants and takeaways is eaten by these dogs to survive.

Considering that the above is just a partial list of their gourmet, Glucose biscuits as dog food would then be considered a nutritious good snack.

Glucose Biscuits fit our shoe string budget.

Of course it would be great to give these strays dogs, biscuits or dried food made specially for dogs and their different digestive requirements but they are very much more expensive.

Glucose biscuits are easy & practical to acquire, carry and distribute. Volunteer Feeders of hungry stray dogs and animals also have an uphill battle of their own with shoe string budgets. Getting funds for feeding stray dogs is very difficult to get and even harder to sustain.

So God Bless the Angels that just think of even feeding the stray dogs, let alone giving the stray animals glucose biscuits.

I rather give the stray dogs and animals clean food with reasonable nutrition than them being forced to chew on used sanitary pads due to hunger!.

Other Affordable Dog Food that could be given to stray dogs .

Caution : The stray dogs might not take up to eating dried food overnight. It takes time and it might need a little bit of non veg soup or egg or chappati or rice mixed with it. Giving dry food should always be accompanied with adequate water there after.
